What is hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is a planting process that uses a slurry of seed, mulch, fertilizer, and water sprayed onto the soil to promote fast and even grass growth. This method is more cost-effective than sod and provides excellent erosion control while ensuring healthy, long-lasting turf. At Fox Erosion Control & Landscape Inc, we specialize in professional hydroseeding services to help you achieve a lush, green lawn or restore vegetation in large areas efficiently.

What is the difference between hydroseeding and sod?
Hydroseeding and sod are both popular methods for establishing a lawn, but they have key differences. Hydroseeding involves spraying a slurry of seed, mulch, fertilizer, and water onto the soil, promoting fast, even growth. It's cost-effective and ideal for larger areas. Sod consists of pre-grown grass that is cut into rolls and laid down on the soil, providing an instant lawn. While sod gives immediate results, it's typically more expensive and requires more maintenance initially. According to This Old House, sod pallets cost 70% more than hydroseeding. At Fox Erosion Control & Landscape Inc., we can help you choose the best option based on your needs and budget.
How do I maintain a hydroseeded yard?
Maintaining a hydroseeded yard is relatively simple but requires some care to ensure healthy, lush growth. Here are a few tips for proper maintenance. Keep the area consistently moist, especially in the first few weeks. Water lightly several times a day until the seeds have germinated. Once the grass starts to grow, reduce watering to once a day and gradually transition to deeper watering less frequently. Wait until the grass is around three to four inches tall before mowing for the first time. Make sure your mower blades are sharp to avoid damaging the young grass. Apply a balanced fertilizer after the grass has established, usually about four to six weeks after germination, to encourage healthy growth. Keep an eye out for weeds, but avoid using harsh chemicals on young grass. A safe, gentle weed control method can be applied once the grass is established. Try to keep foot traffic to a minimum while the grass is still growing, as this can damage the tender new grass. At Fox Erosion Control & Landscape Inc, we can provide you with more personalized hydroseeding maintenance advice based on your specific needs!
